Can I opt for bi-weekly lawn maintenance?
Typically when asked about bi-weekly lawn service, we understand that an issue is being raised about affordability.  We understand the concern, and to create a win/win situation for everyone, we ask for the opportunity to evaluate your lawn each week in keeping with an established service rotation.  If your lawn is not in need of service, then there is no charge to you for the trip!  However, additional fees apply to lawns that become overgrown.

What happens when it’s raining on my regularly scheduled lawn service day?
When weather interferes with your regular day for lawn maintenance, your property is then placed on priority status for the next service day.  If additional contingencies are necessary due to multiple bad weather days, we will communicate with you regarding suitable make-up plans with a goal to eventually work the property back to its regularly assigned day of service.  Click here to sign up for email or text messaging updates concerning potential weather related changes in your lawn maintenance.

How many lawn treatments does my lawn really need?
We believe that most lawns can be prudently served with four separate lawn treatments during each calendar year when coupled with proper lawn maintenance.  The Yard Butler also offers treatment options for grubs and insects should your lawn become plagued.  Click here to review The Butler’s 4 step approach to fertilization.  Please note that if your heart’s desire is the golf course look----we can accommodate.  We’ll customize any program to fit individual desires, but will never try to sell you treatments you don’t need.

When is the best time for seeding?
Early fall represents the most ideal time for seeding your lawn; weather conditions are usually favorable for seed germination during this time. Seeding can also be accommodated in the spring given cooler weather, however, should not be attempted along side the application of a pre-emergent.   It is very difficult to kill weeds and control crabgrass using a pre-emergent treatment and also try to establish new grass seed at the same time.  The Yard Butler can work with you to produce the best outcome if your desire is to seed during the spring.

What will aeration do for my lawn?
Aeration opens up the soil, allowing air and water to penetrate into the root zone of the grass. This process loosens compacted soil and improves root development while also developing a stronger, thicker, and more stress resistant plant.

Following a lawn treatment, when is it safe for children and pets to go onto the lawn?
If granular fertilizer is used you may go on the lawn immediately after the application. If liquid weed control is used, allow the material to dry on the grass before children and pets are allowed on it. Drying time will vary with weather conditions.

The grass is very thin under my trees. How can I improve the situation?
The roots of the trees are competing with the grass for water and nutrients, leaving the grass with an inadequate supply of each. Also, the grass requires a period of direct sunlight in order to grow properly. Pruning trees, planting shade resistant grass, or planting ground cover such as pachysandra can help the situation.  The installation of mulch around tree areas also serves as a popular solution.

Do I have to sign a lawn care contract with your company?
No.  Plain and simple. We do not force (or even encourage) lawn care contracts that are unwanted.  Click here to view our policy regarding the use of lawn care contracts.

Do I have to sign a landscape contract?
Contracts are a hard and fast requirement on all hardscape projects for the benefit of everyone involved. A contract ensures that all facets of the project are understood and agreed up by both parties from the beginning. All contracts are in keeping with what would legally be considered usual and customary to include project completion dates, payment information/due dates, and liability clauses.

Do you require a deposit on landscaping?
Yes, typically 50% down to cover materials costs and time dedications prior to the beginning of any work.

Do you offer maintenance on landscape services?
Yes, landscape maintenance continues to be a big part of  the Butler’s service offerings. Custom packages can be designed based on individual need/desire.

Can I count on your estimate to accurately reflect my price?
Yes. All estimates are designed to reflect the final cost of any project.  However, keep in mind that any changes to the original design plan may result in additional charges in which case a change order will be used to reflect cost differences and require client approval.

Do you guarantee your plants?
Yes, The Yard Butler guarantees that all plants are true to name, up to grade, and healthy upon arrival.  Woody plants are guaranteed for 1 year, roses and perennials for 90 days, and annuals for 30 days.  Click here for full policy information.
